Several times, having sex after an abortion can happen, but we don’t recommend it. It would be better to wait between 4 to 7 days after taking Misoprostol (Cytotec – 200mcg) before having intercourse again. Soon after the abortion, the cervix may be slightly open, and if you have sex during this period, the risk of getting an infection is higher.
Having sex after an abortion may increase the risk of infections, since the cervix is slightly open.
Can I have sex after abortion?
It is common to keep bleeding lightly and irregularly in the two weeks following the medical abortion (sometimes it lasts even longer).
You can still have sex even if bleeding continues. However, if you don’t want to get pregnant, it is important to use contraceptive methods every time you have sex.
Although it may take several weeks before you menstruate again after the abortion (usually about 6 weeks), it is possible for you to ovulate during the first or second week after the procedure, which means that you can get pregnant right away!
This is why we reccomend a few days of abstinence and no sex after abortion.
