We do not recommend performing an abortion alone and firmly suggest to take the medication in the presence of someone you trust. It may be a friend, boyfriend or anyone else who can help you if something happens or if you need assistance.
Performing a medical abortion alone, doens’t necessarily mean it is dangerous.
However, if you decide to go ahead with the medical abortion alone, that does not necessarily mean it is dangerous.
Make sure that you have a phone, or any other way to make contact with medical professionals near during the whole process.

A study, which tested the effectiveness of medical abortion and the use of Misoprostol (Cytotec – 200mcg) at home, was carried out in Vietnam and Tunisia. In this study, 22% of women in Vietnam and 24% of women in Tunisia had no one by their side when they took Misoprostol (Cytotec – 200mcg). This reality did not result in higher failure rate, complications or side effects.
If a woman is certain she will have a medical abortion, the best thing for her is to find a reliable person to stay with her during the entire process. If she experiences abnormally intense side effects (extreme or prolonged pain, bleeding, cramps, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) is good to have someone next to her to help in case of complications.
