Determining the time of gestation is crucial to find out the viability and safety of the whole abortion process. There are two alternative ways to identify the stage of a pregnancy without having to take any tests:
- Through the date of the intercourse
If you know exactly when the fertilisation took place, then start counting from that date. Keep in mind, as a standard reference, that a week consists of 7 days and that a month has 4 weeks.
- Through the date of your last menstrual period
If you can’t remember when the intercourse happened, there is a less precise way and it consists in counting from the date of your last period.
You can determine the time period of your pregnancy by the date of your last period or through the date of the intercourse that resulted in pregnancy.
It should be highlighted that both are imprecise methods that rely on your memory. They should be taken into account as last options or as auxiliary resources.
The most efficient methods that indicate how far you are in your pregnacy are the hCG blood test (althouh it shows approximate values, is not the most accurate method) or the ultrasound (which is the most precise way).
